brazilian rainbow boa

a lovely nonvenomous friend who is becoming a common household pet! these lovely snakes are a type of boa constrictor that is common to south america, specifically the amazon rainforest. they are commonly sought after for their gorgeous coloration and sheen, which makes them appear with rainbow colors in the sunlight! they grow up to 6 feet long, and can eat things as large as small primates. they also eat lizards and various other animals, as long as they can ambush them and fit them in their mouth. their scales are typically red and black, but again they have small ridges at the end of their scales that make them glisten rainbow in the sun. they are quickly becoming one of the most popular snakes to have as a pet due to their lack of venom, coloration, and moderately easy care.

black mamba

the black mamba is the the second longest and one of the most vemonous snakes in the world. it comes in lovely shades of dark greys and black, just like its name, and is commonly found in subsaharan africa. this snake can get up to about 10 feet long, and is able to move at around 12 miles per hour. it's venom can also kill a human person in 6 hours without an antidote, making them one of the deadliest snakes around. even though they are extremely deadly, they are actually quite shy creatures, only becoming aggressive once cornered. they are fast strikers, and are able to camouflauge well in their environment. they are an uncommon sight outside of their habitat but some zoos have them on display.

ring-necked spitting cobra

the ring-necked spitting cobra, or also known as the rinkhals, is a unique type of snake known for spitting its venom at attackers. typically coming in browns and blacks, with some white scales around its neck, they are commonly found in grasslands and swamps of south africa. they are not super aggressive, but when cornered they hold their head up high and either strike at their attacker or spit their deadly venom to scare them away. they have extremely cytotoxic venom, which makes the spot where they spit or bite at you swell with extreme pain and can even damage tissue. they can get up to about 3.5 feet long, and they can venom spit up to 9 feet away.

boomslang

the boomslang is another one of the most deadly snakes in the world. found commonly across most of subsaharan africa, mostly in forests, these green beauties are unique for their species for actually being deadly to humans. they are commonly found in trees, as they are excellent climbers, and can even leap from branch to branch, across other trees. because of this, they can seem like they're flying, due to the way they fling themselves through the air. they have extremely good eyesight, which benefits them as they hunt, and their venom is a hemotoxin, which can almost instantly kill their prey. their diet consists of other reptiles mostly, especially lizards, but they also eat birds, small mammals, and they even cannibalize each other. growing up to 5 feet long, the boomslang is one of the most fascinating snakes that can be found.

garter snakes

these perfect little garden divas are some of my favorite snakes in the world. they are tiny, coming in at about 20 inches, and are some of the most important snakes to at least my ecosystem. they come in various colors, from greens to browns to slight reds and blacks. they mostly feed on bugs and reptiles and mammals that are smaller than them. they are venomous, but pose no danger to humans. they used to be thought to be nonvenomous, but in the early 2000's it was proven that they have a mild neurotoxin venom. they are commonly found across all of the united states, and live mostly underground in nests they build. they are small, adorable little things that are perfect in every way. i love garter snakes of all kind.
